Sights of Unique Beauty to Elevate Your Experience in Arcadia

If you wish to deeply explore this paradisiacal place, then a visit to the following attractions is essential to connect with its significant historical and natural landmarks.

The Monastery of Elona is one of Arcadia's most impressive landmarks, perched on a cliffside of Mount Parnon at an altitude of 433 meters! This renowned gem of the region's religious life dates back to the early 16th century. According to tradition, the icon of the Virgin Mary was originally discovered at a very high point on the mountain, but later, the prayers of the locals led it to a lower location where a small wooden chapel was built. This chapel served as the foundation of the monastery.

This monastery played a crucial role in the Greek War of Independence in 1821, hence its significant historical importance. It celebrates on August 15th and 23rd, and every summer, a multitude of faithful visitors come to admire up close its precious relics, magnificent icons, and a handwritten Gospel manuscript.
